COLDAX Festival Release

a press release from Tarragon Theatre

SPRING ARTS FAIR TAKES A YEAR OFF;
Tarragon presents The Wrecking Ball’s COLDAX

After 20 successful years of the Spring Arts Fair, Tarragon’s annual festival of new play development will go on hiatus for one year. We’re taking this time off to rethink and will return refreshed to the Spring Arts Fair in May 2006.

Our energies this year will go towards The Wrecking Ball’s COLDAX – a sampler of some of the hottest full-length political drama produced around the world in the last little while. The Wrecking Ball is a new theatre initiative in Toronto that aims to bring the political back into Canadian drama.

COLDAX is curated by the Wrecking Ball crew – Lara Azzopardi, Ross Manson, Jason Sherman and Andrew Soren – and presented by Tarragon. The festival features rehearsed public readings from an international selection of recent full-length political plays over a four-day period. Focusing on very recent scripts (with a few nods to the last fifty years), COLDAX aims to demonstrate the scope, power and necessity of political theatre worldwide at the present moment.

COLDAX will be presented at Tarragon Theatre May 26-29, 2005. Tarragon has had an association with The Wrecking Ball from its inception, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to host COLDAX.

Drop by for an explosive festival of razor-sharp Théâtre Éngagé, and find out what some of the world’s writers (ours included) are saying from the stage, and how they’re saying it. Stay tuned for details, and in the meantime, check out www.thewreckingball.ca.
